CALAUIT ISLAND

Calauit Island, located in the Calamian Islands of Palawan, Philippines, is a unique wildlife sanctuary and eco-tourism destination. Established in 1976, the island is notable for its diverse wildlife, featuring both African species, such as giraffes, zebras, and impalas, as well as endemic Palawan animals, including the critically endangered Calamian deer and the Palawan bearcat.

The island was originally created as a safari park, with African animals introduced to thrive in the environment. In addition to its African wildlife, Calauit is also an important sanctuary for native species of Palawan. The island offers guided tours for visitors to observe both African and endemic wildlife in their natural habitats, making it an important site for eco-tourism and conservation efforts in the region.
